Just playing around a bit

A lot of people participating in NaNo have created "book covers" for their upcoming novels. I thought this was so silly. Why do that when you haven't even started writing? But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the cover of a book can speak volumes. I'll even go so far as to say that at times, I've picked up a book based on the cover - just to read what it's about.

I honestly think that the whole process of thinking about what I'd want on the cover was helpful. It made me think about the whole feeling of my story.

Besides, it was a good diversion for me - it let me play around on the computer and also helped get my mind off the fact that with only two more days left before we start writing, I still feel unprepared.

But hey, if I could create a cover for my non-book, it might look something like this:

Interesting...definitely makes me want to read your about-to-be-written novel. Is that title pretty solid or are you still playing with it? Either way, intriguing.

It's solid for the sake of this challenge. I felt like I needed a "working title" otherwise I wouldn't feel any connection to my story. There's always the possibility that I'll change it.

A Night Like This is a line from one of my favorite songs - the song I was listening to on that drive to DeKalb to see you for lunch. That was the drive (and song) that inspired this story.

So, basically, following that logic, clearly, I inspired this story. Cool, can't wait for the residual royalty checks to start coming in once you're finished, published, and famous!

Would you settle for a mention in the dedication and a lunch at Portillo's? :-)

Were I in Barnes and Nobles that is a book I would pick up and turn over to investigate further. Interesting title. Do we get to read it?

I would love people to read it, but not until I actually revise the first draft (if I even complete the challenge this month). The whole point is to get the story on paper and then clean it up. I expect to write a total pile of crap in November :-)

Here's to crap on paper!

I'll drink to that! Cheers!
